Environmental Protection Committee Meets with UK Parliamentary Delegation

In the series of meetings the delegation of the Parliament of the United Kingdom held with the National Assembly working bodies, it was today received by the members of the Environmental Protection Committee.

On the Serbian side, the meeting was chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee Milimir Vujadinovic who expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with the British delegation, stressing the need to exchange experiences relating to environmental protection, sustainable development and the green agenda. He added that Serbia attaches increasing importance to these issues, but when talking about environmental protection, attention must be paid to the entire region of the Western Balkans for the results to become observable. He stressed that sustainable development is a multilateral goal and Serbia, in addition to a very good legal framework, is now focusing on its implementation.

Committee members Prof. Dr Branimir Jovancicevic, Radomir Lazovic, Marko Mladenovic and Dusan Radojevic took the opportunity to talk about current environmental topics in Serbia such as climate change, air quality, biodiversity conservation, cleaning waste water and illegal landfills, energy efficiency and mining of mineral resources.

The officials agreed that countries must raise awareness among individuals and the general public to make sure the sustainable development goals are effective and the progress in the field of environmental protection is visible when the citizens, decision-makers and the professional public work together for change.

The delegation of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, comprising the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Serbia Jackie Doyle-Price, Group co-chair Lord Rennard and MPs Matthew Offord, Tan Dhesi and Wayne David, said that their country is also struggling with very similar challenges as Serbia, especially in the field of climate change and air quality.
