Eleventh Sitting of the European Integrations Committee

At the sitting held on 4 March, the European Integrations Committee members considered the 11 bills included into the agenda for the First Sitting of the First Regular Session of the National Assembly in 2009.The representatives of the authorized ministries: for human and minority rights, justice, finance, public administration and local self-government and interior explained the reasons why the bills should be passed.

The representatives of the authorized ministries: for human and minority rights, justice, finance, public administration and local self-government and interior explained the reasons why the bills should be passed. They stressed that Serbia needs to adopt them in order to be placed on the white Schengen list and harmonise its domestic legislation with the legislation of the European Union.

By a majority of votes, the Committee accepted the Bill on the Prohibition of Discrimination and the Bill on International Legal Aid in Criminal Matters in principle, with the exception of three separate opinions.

The Committee also debated in principle on the six bills on the confirmation of: the Convention on Cybercrime, the Council of Europe Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime and Financing of Terrorism, the Additional Protocol to the Convention on Cybercrime concerning the criminalisation of acts of a racist and xenophobic nature committed through computer systems, the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism, the Protocol amending the European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism.

By a majority of votes, with three separate opinions, the Committee accepted the bills in principle.

By a majority of votes, with three separate opinions, the Committee members also accepted the Bill on Prevention of Money-Laundering and Financing of Terrorism in principle, as well as the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark on alleviated visa issuance procedure.

The Committee unanimously accepted the Bill on Registry Books, in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Laslo Varga.
