Egypt Reiterates Solid Relations with Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Serbia H.E. Bassel Salah to discuss the deepening of the overall cooperation between the two countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic pointed out that Serbia and Egypt are bound by decades of sincere friendship, as evidenced by the many years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, adding that the recent meeting between the presidents of the two countries, Alexander Vucic and Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, and the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership, lend special impulse to the intensification of overall cooperation

The officials agreed that the signing of 12 cooperation agreements in various fields would contribute to the deepening of cooperation. They also welcomed the decision to start negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement, with the expectation that it would be concluded by the end of this year.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic thanked Egypt for respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and its full understanding of the Kosovo-Metohija issue, stressing that this attitude is extremely important for Serbia. He stressed that at the moment the situation in Kosovo-Metohija is very difficult and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic is making extraordinary efforts to maintain peace. "We recognise Pristina’s clear intention to destroy any presence of Serbian people in Kosovo, which is unacceptable for us and we will not allow such a thing. We are always the ones who try to preserve the dialogue and look for a solution that preserves peace for both the Serbian and Albanian sides," said Orlic, explaining the situation in the province.

The meeting also touched on the planned visit of the Egyptian Parliament Speaker Hanafy El-Gebaly to the Republic of Serbia.

At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed that the many potential areas of cooperation could represent a huge potential for the further strengthening of relations between the two countries, to their mutual benefit.
