Education, Science, Technological Development and Information Society Committee Deputy Chairman Meets with Presidents of European Association of Teachers and European Association of Teachers of Serbia

Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society, met, at the National Assembly, with the President of the European Association of Teachers (AEDE), Silvano Marseglia and the President of the European Association of Teachers of Serbia (EATS), Rade Zejak.


The Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society, Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic emphasised the importance of upbringing and education for the society. Considering the importance of their profession, Stojmirovic drew attention to the need to improve the status and reputation of educators in society. Stojmirovic pointed out that the members of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society are ready to cooperate with the representatives of the two associations.

The President of the European Association of Teachers, Silvano Marseglia said that the organisation’s key ideas and goals are to promote tolerance and European values in the sphere of education, as well as adjust the educational system to the needs of a given society. Marseglia also briefed his host on the projects currently conducted by the European Association of Teachers.

The President of the European Association of Teachers of Serbia, Rade Zejak stressed that the basic goals of the association founded in February 2014 are to promote European ideas and the need for European integration in the sphere of education, as well as foster partnership and cooperation between European educational institutions and the institutions of the Republic of Serbia.

The European Association of Teachers was founded in Paris in 1956 and today boasts more than 25.000 teachers from all educational levels. The Association maintains close ties with the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO. The member states of the European Association of Teachers also have their own national branches.

The national branch in Serbia - European Association of Teachers of Serbia, founded in February 2014, currently has the status of observer and is to become a full member of the European Association of Teachers in November 2014 at the annual assembly in Strasbourg.
