Dr Vladimir Orlic with Newly-Appointed Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic received the newly-appointed Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vranjes, welcoming him and wishing him a successful mandate.

Ambassador Vranjes briefed Speaker Orlic on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with special focus on the indictment against the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, citing it as an example of tyranny, suspension of rights, logic and principles of democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stressed that the indictment against a legitimately elected representative of the Serbian people, brought without grounds, damages the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the course of the meeting, Speaker Orlic said that Serbia considers compliance with the Dayton Accords to be of the utmost importance and, in line with it, Serbia considers any violation of the Dayton principles and the constitutional arrangement of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on them to be wrong and harmful. "The consensus of the two entities and the three constituent nations is the only correct path, not the imposition of the will that comes from outside," said Dr Orlic, adding: "We want to have the best possible relations with all the nations, all the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but we have clearly communicated that today Serbia stands strongly by the Republic of Srpska, its people and leadership chosen by the people to preserve the Dayton principles, peace and progress," said the National Assembly Speaker.

Dr Orlic stressed that all of Serbia stands behind the words of President Aleksandar Vucic: "We fully respect the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of Srpska within it, because we respect both entities and all three nations. We expect the same respect when it comes to Serbia’s territorial integrity, which was absent during the vote in the Council of Europe. We want to cooperate with everyone, preserving peace and stability, which are a vital interest of the Serbian people wherever they may live. This is always threatened by others: most recently by Albin Kurti who advocates "Greater Albania" on the territory of North Macedonia, threatening to lead the entire Balkans into misfortune and adversity. The international community must not be silent on that count," said Speaker Orlic.

In the course of the meeting, the officials praised the numerous infrastructure projects Serbia is implementing in all the municipalities in the Republic of Srpska, as well as in several municipalities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasising the importance of joint work on large projects such as highways, new hydroelectric plants and the airport. Dr Orlic said he believed that during his service in Belgrade, Ambassador Vranjes would personally contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and the additional intensification of interparliamentary cooperation.
