Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Chairman Meets with Moldovan Defence Minister
The Chairman of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Dusan Bajatovic and Committee member Konstantin Samofalov met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Moldova Vitalie Marinuta.
The officials exchanged opinions on how to address modern security challenges, risks and threats and on participation in international peace operations based on their mutual interest - to stake their claim at the international level as makers rather than beneficiaries of security. They noted that one of the priorities should be turning toward big security challenges of modern times such as terrorism, trafficking in humans, money laundering and similar.
Defence and Internal Affairs Committee member Konstantin Samofalov congratulated Moldova on its significant progress toward Euro-integration and endorsed the ratification of the defence cooperation agreement.
Commenting on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Minister Marinuta restated that Moldova would not recognise the self-proclaimed independence of Kosovo. He also stressed that he was looking forward to Serbia’s chairmanship of the OSCE in 2015, hoping to cooperate with Serbia within the institution.
