Assembly Committee capacity-building

Assembly Committee members involved in the National Assembly Committee Poverty Reduction Capacity-Building Project made a one-day study visit to the Municipality of Ada/Mol on 18 October.

Assembly Committee members involved in the National Assembly Committee Poverty Reduction Capacity-Building Project made a one-day study visit to the Municipality of Ada/Mol on 18 October. The visit was organised by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, with the support of UNDP.

Talking to Ada Municipality officials, the deputies learned about the work of the local poverty reduction committee, founded at the initiative of the Duga NGO, which provides help to population groups at risk, such as the disabled, Roma, mentally challenged children, and the unemployed.

Among sites of numerous programmes successfully implemented in Ada/Mol Municipality is Mol’s Novak Radonic Primary School, where the visiting deputies were told about the formation of a Day Care Centre for mentally challenged children.

The position of the Roma population in society was the topic of discussion during a visit to Mol’s Novo Selo community, and an evening school for adults; in direct contact with the school’s students, the deputies learned about their integration into the education system and the possibilities of their employment through public works projects.

The deputies also met disabled persons, who are to find employment at a newly-established paper products workshop, with the support of the local poverty reduction committee.
