Angola Wants Best Possible Relations with Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic is heading the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the 147th IPU Assembly in Luanda, Angola, from 23 to 27 October 2023.


The plenary and the meeting of the Governing Council begin tomorrow, and today Deputy Speaker Paunovic took part in the meeting of the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. The main topics of today's debate were the position of women in politics, activities aimed at improving gender equality and the fight against child trafficking in orphanages.

In the course of the day, the Deputy Speaker had a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola, Carolina Cerqueira where she thanked Angola for its principled support for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, underlining the importance of support regarding Kosovo-Metohija for our country. She recalled the traditional friendship of two peoples who supported each other in difficult times. Serbia is ready to continue to develop cooperation at all levels. Finally, Deputy Speaker Paunovic expressed her confidence that Angola will be well represented at EXPO 2027 in Belgrade.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola, Carolina Cerqueira spoke in favour of strengthening the ties between the two parliaments, improving economic and trade cooperation and deepening concrete relations in the fields of agriculture, culture, new technologies and defence. She expressed her willingness to visit Serbia and sign a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two parliaments, which, in addition to further improving parliamentary cooperation, would also contain provisions that would confirm mutual determination and commitment to working together to promote international peace, justice and stability.

In the course of the session, the delegation will have a series of bilateral meetings with delegations from all over the world. They will discuss the improvement of bilateral and parliamentary cooperation, current situation in Europe and the world, as well as the IPU Assembly dominant topics.
