30th Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy

At the sitting held on 28 September, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy discussed and accepted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Tourism, in principle.

The Committee also discussed and accepted the Bill on the Confirmation of the amendments to the World Tourism Organisation Statute A/RES/422 (XIV), A/RES/511 (XVI) and A/RES/512 (XVI), Bill on the Confirmation of the Tourism Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Bill on the Confirmation of the Economic Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Bill on the Confirmation of the Protocol amending and modifying the Free Trade Agreement between EFTA member states and the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Activity Report for the period 1 April – 30 June 2015.

Acting Assistant Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Dr Renata Pindzo provided the rationale for the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Tourism. Dr Pindzo said that the Bill was the result of an analysis of the situation on the tourism market and assessment of the problems in the economic branch, both of the main agents and the subjects engaged in tourism-related business. The need to reduce the grey economy emerged as the key task, to which end the rights, duties and authority of the inspection services were reshuffled.

The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Activity Report for the period 1 April – 30 June 2015 was presented by State Secretary Stevan Nikcevic. He spoke of the bilateral and trilateral meetings realised in the previous period, as well as multilateral and regional economic and trade cooperation. On the occasion, Nikcevic informed the Committee members that, at the invitation of the EU Delegation in Belgrade, Ministry representatives had met with EU representatives and economic advisors from EU member states, and presented the key guidelines of Serbia’s trade policy and the results achieved so far in the EU accession process within Chapter 30 – External Relations.

State Secretary Vesna Kovac added that the Ministry’s official website now provides a Register of mediators which allows Internet users to ascertain whether a mediator operates within the Law and which persons had passed the state licence exam, strengthening the service users’ legal security and considerably reducing the possibility of illegal mediation in the trade and lease of real estate. In terms of prices, Kovac said that the inflation in the period 1 April – 30 June 2015 was 0.7% which is twice lower than in the previous quarter.

On the behalf of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the sitting was attended by state secretaries Stevan Nikcevic and Vesna Kovac, as well as acting assistant ministers Dr Renata Pindzo and Maja Mandrapa Gasic.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Dr Aleksandra Tomic.
