Second Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy
At the sitting held on 14 May 2024, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy were presented the Energy Community Secretariat Annual Report on the progress of the Republic of Serbia in the implementation of regulations in the field of energy.
The presentation of the Report was also attended by members of the Environmental Protection Committee, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic and associates, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, representatives of Srbijagas, Council of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia, Republic Commission for Energy Networks, as well as representatives of the Energy Community Secretariat.
Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski pointed out that Serbia is one of the most successful countries in terms of the implementation of the EU acquis in the energy sector, adding that significant progress has also been made in the implementation of reforms regarding the climate agenda. He presented Serbia’s most significant results in 2023 as regards legislative activities, field of decarbonisation and improvement of the environment, and listed the steps ahead.
Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said that the Energy Community marked Serbia as the leader in the implementation of reforms in 2023, mostly thanks to the progress in the field of decarbonisation, as well as the reforms implemented in the energy sector. This confirms that Serbia is acting responsibly in achieving its goals regarding a climate-neutral future, she said. In addition to the implemented reforms, Minister Djedovic Handanovic also spoke of the next steps and projects, stressing that Serbia will continue with the reform processes in the field of energy.
In the ensuing discussion, the attending exchanged opinions on the topics presented in the Report.
In the continuation of the sitting, Committee Chairperson Snezana Paunovic and Deputy Chairman Nikola Radosavljevic were selected as members, and Committee members Tijana Davidovac and Zarko Ristic, as substitute members, of the delegation to take part in the meetings of the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum.
