22nd Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 9 February 2022, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee considered the problems in the upcoming agricultural works concerning the replenishment of winter crops and preparation of spring sowing.

Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Milan Cupic said that this year's autumn sowing covered a slightly larger area, meaning a 3.5% increase in sowing compared to the previous year.

The planting of wheat, barley and oilseed rape was increased, he said, and the weather conditions were favourable with enough moisture in the soil.

An increase in raw material prices marked the end of 2021, which will prove significant for this year, 2022, as well, said Cupic adding that agricultural products have also become more expensive, which in turn caused an increase in production prices. Another thing that affects agricultural production in the increase in the price of crude oil and natural gas, said the Ministry representative. As a result, the price of mineral fertilizers has gone up. He went on to present the measures undertaken by the Government to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fertilizers, also adding that incentives for plant production were being prepared.

Following a long discussion, in the course of which the Committee members discussed the measures that need to be taken to avoid losses, the Committee ascertained a conclusion, which they sent to the competent Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Marko Zeljug, Dijana Radovic, Sonja Todorovic, Olja Petrovic, Veroljub Matic, Tijana Davidovac, Goran Spasojevic, Milija Miletic, Zarko Bogatinovic and Arpad Fremond.
