Jorgovanka Tabakovic, Governor of the National Bank of Serbia and representative of the submitter, stated that the proposed amendments and modification additionally specify the provisions of the Law on the National Bank of Serbia dealing with institutional and personal independence of the institution so as to eliminate any dilemmas as regards the Law’s compliance with the European Union acquis communautaire. It is important to pass this Bill in due time, before the election of the Council of the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, said Tabakovic.
Following the ensuing discussion in which the Committee members voiced various opinions on the Bill and whether it strengthens the independence and autonomy of the National Bank of Serbia, the Committee adopted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on the National Bank of Serbia, in principle, by a majority of votes.
