The representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, Zoran Martinovic and Dragana Radovanovic, stressed that the adoption of the Convention ensures higher protection of crew, as well as ship staff, by providing better healthcare, sick pay, work-related injury compensation and unemployment benefits.
The Committee unanimously decided to propose that the National Assembly accept the Bill amending the Law on the Confirmation of the International Labour Organisation’s 2006 Maritime Labour Convention.
The Committee members unanimously decided to organise a public hearing on 24 January 2013 on “Law on Social Welfare – One Year of Implementation”. The public hearing was initiated by civic initiatives in order to brief the MPs and citizens on the Research Report on the implementation of the Law, as well as draw attention to examples of best practice in the implementation of the Law on Social Welfare.
In the continuation, the Committee Chairperson informed the members that the eight petitions and proposals the Committee had received in the previous period would be forwarded to the competent authorities for further action.
