Women's Parliamentary Network – Press Release

The Women's Parliamentary Network cannot remain silent and strongly condemns the monstrous tweet published on the profile of MP and Vice President of the Vuk Jeremic’s People's Party, Marina Lipovac Tanaskovic.

This humiliates every woman who has been a victim of violence and puts at the service of daily political disputes of a party that considers itself worthy to be called "people's".

It is shameful that anyone in today's society, especially a parliamentarian, views women in the context of an object of violence. With such ignorance, we call into question all the values that we as a society have been trying to set as a standard for years. For this reason alone, we are encouraged to continue to fight the most important fight the right way - zero tolerance for any form of violence against women.

This drags the victims of violence through the daily political mire, which apparently for the representatives of the People's Party, represents a legitimate form of political struggle.

The fact that this photo was published by an MP and vice-president of the People's Party, makes it clear that this is the position of both this party and its leader Vuk Jeremic.

It is inadmissible that the party the colonel is part of, who points out her experience in the fight against domestic violence as the biggest asset, encourages a narrative that further victimizes the victims of violence in a way that has not been seen before.

The policy of responsibility and the fight for the prevention of violence against women is reflected in 365 days of activism for women's equality and a position worthy of a mother, sister, grandmother, wife...

We would like to inform the public that the Women's Parliamentary Network has received dozens of requests from members of parliament and citizens to suspend the participation of the People's Party in the work of the Women's Parliamentary Network.

We will rule on it at the first next meeting.
