Women’s Parliamentary Network Meets with Ambassador Swanee Hunt

Today, at the National Assembly House, the members of the Women’s Parliamentary Network met with former US Ambassador to Austria Swanee Hunt, founder of the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School and advocate of integration of women in political processes.

WPN members Gordana Comic, Nada Lazic, Stefana Miladinovic, Dubravka Filipovski and Sabina Dazdarevic informed Ambassador Hunt about the activities of the Network whose chief goals are promoting dialogue between men and women, economic empowerment of women, improvement of healthcare for women and boosting women’s political representation. They emphasised the WPN’s role in the amendment of the Criminal Code and the WPN members’ efforts on fostering ties among women at the provincial and local level.

Speaking of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010-2015), Ambassador Hunt said that efforts should be focused on the implementation of the Resolution at the local level and underlined the importance of maintaining dialogue between the WPN and women in Kosovo. She stressed that the cooperation between women in Serbia and in Kosovo is a best practice example in the region and a positive model of reconciliation in the world.
