Winners of International Mathematics and Informatics Competitions Receive Awards

The award ceremony at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia concluded the international competitions – 2nd Mathematical Grammar School Cup and 8th Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics.

More than 150 students from 16 countries of the world won 16 gold, 26 silver and 39 bronze medals. The three cups of the Mathematical Grammar School Cup were won by the Romanian team as best in mathematics, Serbian team as best in physics and the Bulgarian team as best in informatics. The winner of the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics is the Romanian team.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Ninoslav Stojadinovic addressed the young competitors at the closing ceremony on the behalf of the National Assembly. Since all but few of them come from countries characterised by a brain drain he said that the great responsibility of stopping that trend falls to them. The National Assembly Deputy Speaker stressed that he supports the idea of young people going abroad to learn and gain new experiences, but he believes that they should then return and raise the technological level of the countries they come from.
The host and organiser of the gathering, the Principle of the Mathematical Grammar School Srdjan Ognjanovic said how pleased he was to see a rise in the numbers of participants since last year. He believes that this shows how necessary competitions such as these are as an arena where ideas, knowledge and experiences can be exchanged.
The gathering was also addressed by special advisor to the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Irina Reljin, Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Prof. Dr Zorana Luzanin and the Director of Piraeus Bank Neoclis Neocleous.
The international Cup organised by the Mathematical Grammar School was realised under the patronage of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and Piraeus Bank.
