Week of Parliamentarism, 13 - 19 November

On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, 15 September, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic is proud to inform the public, educational institutions, local self-governments and civic associations that the National Assembly is organizing the third “Week of Parliamentarism” (Parliamentary Week), 13-19 November.

Recognizing the importance of public outreach, the event will be marked by a series of events intended to bring the Parliament’s work closer to the citizens and to include young people in the democratic process.

Following the example of UK’s “Parliamentary Week”, the National Assembly will be organizing meetings between the MPs and citizens, session simulations in several Serbian cities to teach young people about the legislative process, as well as have a series of projects with educational institutions. The National Assembly Speaker will meet with elementary school students, child migrants attending regular schools, as well as with the elderly to discuss the role the National Assembly plays in improving peoples’ lives with all the generations.

The “Week of Parliamentarism” will be launched by an exhibition of photos of foreign dignitaries’ visits to the National Assembly entitled “Guests, Friends and Memories”. There is also going to be a “Children’s Day” which will feature an exhibition of children’s work on “How I see the National Assembly” and workshops aimed at teaching children about the Parliament’s work, co-organized with partners from every corner of Serbia.

“Week of Parliamentarism highlights the importance of the parliament as an institution vital to any democratic system by promoting parliamentary democracy, transparency and dialogue with the citizens. This project contributes to the citizens’ awareness of the role and importance of the National Assembly in the legislative process and encourages them, especially young people, to get involved, which helps build trust between our institution and the citizens”, said Maja Gojkovic, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The National Assembly would like to invite all interested educational institutions, local self-governments and civic associations who wish to be partners and take part in the “Week of Parliamentarism” with their parliament-related content to apply by 15 October 2017 on edukacija@parlament.rs.

“Week of Parliamentarism” is traditionally organized in cooperation with the UK Embassy.
