The agenda for the sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija held on 29 November, contained the Information on the security situation in AP Kosovo-Metohija, submitted by the Ministry of Interior (MUP).
The sitting was attended by Deputy Director of Police Branislav Mitrovic and Ministry of Interior Secretary Milorad Todorovic.
Mitrovic informed the Committee members on the security situation in Kosovo-Metohija stressing that the Serbian MUP, in cooperation with EULEX, was attempting to ensure the safety of the Serbs in the north of the province. According to him, this cooperation is vital as the Serbian MUP is not present in Kosovo-Metohija. The Serbian population is still under pressure in Kosovo-Metohija as it suffers attacks on personal and property security, destruction of property and denial of telecommunications. Mitrovic stated that the Kosovo Police Service now employed about 700 Serbs and deemed that there should be more, so that they might legally protect their fellow-nationals.
The Committee members had many questions for the MUP representatives and declared that the Ministry that regularly follows the security situation in AP Kosovo-Metohija should be given full support, as it, in cooperation with EULEX, strives to assist the Serbian population and contribute to preserve the peace and stability in Kosovo-Metohija. In the debate, it was proposed that the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija should hold a joint sitting with the Committee on Defense and Security, that the Committee should be briefed on the platform for negotiations with Pristina, as well as schedule a Committee sitting before the Kosovo elections.
The Committee members did not vote on the MUP Information as they lacked a decision-making quorum.
The sitting was chaired by Ljubomir Kragovic, Committee Chairman.
