Twenty-Ninth Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting held on 17 September, the members of the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Bill on the Accreditation.

At the sitting held on 17 September, the members of the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Bill on the Accreditation. The innovations contained in the Bill were presented by Assistant Minister of Science and Technological Development Jelena Popovic who stressed that this was the last of four laws setting the grounds of modern infrastructure. The Bill would enable a quicker harmonisation of the national technical legislation with EU legislation. It will also create the conditions which would ensure that Serbia has safe and competitive products and becomes a serious partner on the global market. The adoption of the Bill would also contribute to a speedier acceptance of the Serbian Accreditation Body into relevant European and international accreditation organisations and participation in their work, stated Jelena Popovic.

In the discussion the Committee members declared that the Bill should be passed, but that some of the provisions need to be more precise. They made several objections, pointing out that the Bill should also envisage quality control of imported products not only of domestic goods being exported. It should also specify which operational funds of the Accreditation Body are secured from the Republic of Serbia budget, and which from private sources.

The Committee adopted the Bill in principle, by a majority of votes and one abstained.

The sitting was chaired by Srboljub Zivanovic, Committee Chairman.
