At the sitting held on 8 December, the European Integrations Committee members were briefed on the European Commission’s Questionnaire sent for the purpose of preparing an opinion on Serbia’s bid for EU membership.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Laszlo Varga, and attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic and associates.

In his opening address, Deputy Prime Minister Djelic outlined the plan and deadlines for the completion of the European Commission’s Questionnaire in detail. Djelic informed the deputies that the Questionnaire which the Republic of Serbia is supposed to submit to the European Commission by 1 February 2011, has been translated into Serbian and that the public can read it on the website of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Djelic added that the answers to the Questionnaire would reflect the genuine situation in Serbia and expressed his belief that they would receive a positive response from the European Commission. He emphasised the importance of the Government’s cooperation with the National Assembly and European Integrations Council in the upcoming process and urged everyone to take part in the preparation of the answers to the questionnaire. Djelic informed the deputies that after the session of 10 December the Government would send the first part of the adopted answers to the European Integrations Office, and would complete the rest by 10 January, after which about 50 translators would work on translating the answers.

The Committee members discussed the questions contained in the Questionnaire with the Deputy Prime Minister and jointly concluded that the Committee would meet in the upcoming period to discuss the Questionnaire in more detail.
