At sitting, held on 19 July 2011, the Education Committee members reviewed the Information on the activities of the Ministry of Education and Science for the period January-March 2011, field of education.
Informing the Committee members on the Ministry’s work, Minister of Education and Science, Dr Zarko Obradovic stated that the Ministry of Education had successfully completed its duties planned for the period. Several by-laws and rulebooks from various areas of elementary and higher education have been adopted, the inclusion process in education is being successfully implemented, and the institutional procedures in the sphere of implementation of laws, oversight over the realisation of rights and duties of employees and students have also been reviewed. Minister Obradovic reminded that in said period a number of schools in Serbia were on strike which was also successfully overcome by reaching an agreement with union representatives and the students’ education did not suffer as the lessons were later redeemed.
In the continuation, the Committee members were additionally briefed on the Ministry’s treatment of gifted children, as well as the need to amend the education financing system which is not sufficiently efficient. The Committee members wanted to know about the control and evaluation of the work of educators in elementary and high schools, as well as the quality of the work of the education inspection. The Committee members advised Minister Obradovic that the Ministry’s Activity Information should contain an evaluation of the effects of the adopted education laws.
The Education Committee adopted the Information on the activities of the Ministry of Education and Science for the period January-March 2011.
In the continuation, Committee Chairman Dr Zoran Sami informed the Committee members that the Committee had received a memo containing the information that a member of the National Education Council was at the same time employed at the Agency for Improvement of Education which is a conflict of interest. The Committee members agreed to review the matter in September in light of the announcement that said member of the National Education Council will terminate his employment.
