Thirty-Ninth Sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija

The thirty-ninth sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija that started on 28 and continued on 29 November, has not been concluded on 5 December when it was scheduled to continue.

Committee Chairman Ljubomir Kragovic noted that the Committee continues to be unable to perform its duty as neither the head of the negotiating team nor the Minister for Kosovo-Metohija were in attendance and the Committee members have not received the reached agreements in written form. The continuation of the sitting was postponed for Friday, 9. December 2011.

The sitting was scheduled for 28 November so that the Committee might be informed on the results of the last round of negotiations in Brussels, but, because of the most recent events in the north of the Province, the beginning of the sitting has been delayed twice, and the agenda was expanded to include the information on the events in Jagnjenica where conflicts with the local populace ensued after KFOR had forcibly removed the barricades. Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic submitted a report on it to the Committee members and attending MPs. He informed the Committee of the new situation and pointed out the danger of escalating conflicts which is why he called upon the members of the international community and KFOR to resolve the issue by peaceful dialogue, and the Serbs not to fall for provocations.

Following a two-hour discussion, Committee Chairman Ljubomir Kragovic adjourned the sitting because, as he said, the Committee members had not received a written report on the last round of negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina.

In the continuation, on 29 November, the sitting was again adjourned because there were no grounds for discussion as the Committee had not received a written report on the negotiations in Brussels, and neither the head of the negotiating team nor representatives of the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija were in attendance.

In the continuation of the Committee sitting on 5 December, which was supposed to be dedicated to a debate on the results of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and the agreements reached on 21 and 22 November 2011, Committee Chairman Ljubomir Kragovic once again noted the absence of necessary working conditions. He said that he postponed the sitting as, despite being invited, the head of the negotiating team and the Minister for Kosovo-Metohija have failed to attend, and the representatives of the Serbian Government, despite being asked, have failed to submit a report on the last two rounds of negotiations.
