Third Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child

At the sitting held on 27 May 2021, the Committee on the Rights of the Child considered the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography activity information for the period October-December 2020 and January-March 2021.

National Assembly Speaker and Committee Chairman Ivica Dacic said that before the establishment of the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography, the Committee on the Rights of the Child did not have its own line ministry. This sitting, where the Committee reviews the Ministry’s activity information, marks the beginning of the concrete cooperation between the two bodies, stressed Ivica Dacic.

State Secretary at the Ministry Milka Milovanovic Minic and Ministry Secretary Mirjana Radanovic, presented the Ministry activity information, highlighting the legislative activities and work on the preparation of the draft laws amending the Law on Financial Support to Families with Children, Family Law and the Law on the Rights of the Child. They also said that the Serbian Government had set up a Council for Child Rights, headed by Minister Ratko Dmitrovic, and established successful cooperation with the international organisations of UNICEF and the International Labor Organization, as well as the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, with which it has worked on projects to support foster families and balance work life and parenthood.

In the course of the discussion, the Committee members and deputy members praised the Ministry’s work and initiatives, drawing attention to the need to support children in rural areas and the importance of cooperation between the Ministry and local governments to ensure successful family care and boost birth rates.

Following the discussion, the Committee accepted the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography activity information for the period October-December 2020 and January-March 2021.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Ivica Dacic and and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Vladimir Orlic, Elvira Kovacs, Academician Muamer Zukorlic, Jelena Mijatovic, Jelena Obradovic, Vesna Stambolic, Natasa Ivanovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Milija Miletic, Milijana Sakic, Misala Pramenkovic, Prof. Dr Aleksandra Pavlovic Markovic, Vesna Ivkovic, Haji Milorad Stosic, Dr Emese Uri, Danijela Veljovic, Mirsad Hodzic and Nadije Beqiri.
