At the invitation of the Vuk Foundation, Mr Markovic attended the unveiling of a monument to educator and language reformer Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic, and the official opening of the Vuk’s Roots park, in the village of Petnjica, which lies in the region of Drobnjaci. In addition to Mr Markovic, the ceremony was also attended by the President of the Republic of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic. The monument was erected by the Vuk Foundation’s branch office for municipalities of the Durmitor region, with the assistance of the municipalities of Zabljak, Savnik and Pluzine, the Government of the Republic of Montenegro, the Karadzic Clan, and individual donors.
After the ceremony in Petnjica, Mr Markovic met Mr Vujanovic and visited the Assembly of the Republic of Montenegro, where he also met the Speaker, Ranko Krivokapic. Mr Markovic reiterated that Serbia would in no way influence the decision of the people of Montenegro about the status of that country. He underscored his own personal opinion, which is that a referendum should be held as soon as possible in order to do away with uncertainty. He also stressed that he was afraid of the danger posed by the heightening of tensions within Montenegro, and that he did not wish to predict a possible outcome of the referendum.
This was the first visit of a Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Assembly of the Republic of Montenegro.
