Tenth Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting held on 11 May, the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Information on Programme VIND.



At the sitting held on 11 May, the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Information on Programme VIND.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Srboljub Zivanovic.

According to the Minister of Science and Technological Development, Prof. Dr Miroslav Veskovic, the Vinca Institute Nuclear Decommission Programme (Programme VIND) will enable a safe and timely transport of RA reactor’s spent nuclear fuel into the Russian Federation i.e. its country of origin. Also, the project ensures the management of low and medium activity nuclear waste at a temporary warehouse and the nuclear security of the country with the complete decommission of the Institute’s nuclear reactor.

Professor Veskovic briefed the deputies on the comprehensive preparations for the transport of radioactive waste from the research reactor to Russia, and the Committee members posed various additional questions concerning the stages of preparation.

The Committee members called for a comprehensive approach to this very complex issue and requested to be regularly informed about the progress of the VIND programme.
