Stefan Krkobabic Awarded Charter for Year’s Most Inclusive Initiative

Today, the Centre for Development of Belgrade presented the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Stefan Krkobabic with the Charter for the Most Inclusive Initiative of the Year, in recognition of his high level of social and political awareness and consciousness, sense for the need for Serbian society to move towards inclusiveness and protection of the most vulnerable social categories and a high degree of humanity.

In October of this year, Krkobabic proposed to the National Assembly to boost the representation of persons with disabilities in parliament, i.e. that 30 persons with disabilities be among the future 250 MPs. The director of the Centre for Development of Belgrade Vladimir Jestrovic said that there was no doubt to whom the Charter should go this year, considering the seriousness of the proposal and the institution to which it was presented to.

Mr Krkobabic did not make a political, but a humane and conscientious move, proposing that persons with disabilities, in accordance with their percentage in the total population, be proportionally represented in the national parliament, showing that the policy of protection of the most vulnerable population categories, as the basis for the activities of the political party he belongs to, is not a mere proclamation, but something that is realised in practice, said Jestrovic. Stefan Krkobabic thanked the Centre for Development of Belgrade.

“This Charter is a great privilege, as well as an incentive and an obligation to do my best to represent the interests of the most vulnerable yet least audible social groups in Serbia’s political and social sphere. Between faceless capitalism where only profit matters and social justice societies that bear a human face, I will always choose the latter, both as a man and as an official of the PUPS," said Krkobabic.
