State Audit Institution Hands In First Report to National Assembly

Today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was ceremonially presented with the first Report on the financial audit of the Republic of Serbia 2008 Budget.



Today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was ceremonially presented with the first Report on the financial audit of the Republic of Serbia 2008 Budget. The report was presented by the President of the State Audit Institution, Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic.

In her address, the NARS Speaker said that the publication of the first Audit Report provides the National Assembly and the public with complete insight into the realisation of the 2008 budget. This rounds up the budgetary cycle that starts withy the adoption of the Budget Law and continues through the monitoring of its implementation.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic expressed pleasure that conditions enabling the quality work of this independent body have been created. In its work, SAI was guided by the principles of respecting public property, public interest, responsibility of the officials and state clerks for their actions.

At the end of her address, the NARS Speaker thanked the international community and other state audit institutions for the support in establishing this institute in Serbia, and expressed an expectation that in the time to come the National Assembly would be in the position to discuss the reports of all independent institutions in a constructive and thorough parliamentary debate.

The official presenting ceremony was attended by the Norwegian Auditor General, Mr. Jorgen Kosmo; Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Belgrade, Mr. Haakon Blankenborg, RS Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic and RS Ombudsman, Mr. Sasa Jankovic.

This independent body’s reports provide information on the usage of tax payers’ funds which creates the conditions for the Parliament’s objective control over the executive government.
