At the sitting held on 10 June, in line with article 77 of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, the members of the Local Self-Government Committee discussed the Bill on Communal Police.
In the discussion, which included the representatives of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, the Bill was said to be among the most important ones for the implementation of the Local Self-Government Law, while the formation of communal police in towns would help introduce communal order and a more efficient performance of town competences. The Committee members had several objections and suggestions for the improvement of the proposed solutions, believing, among others, that the law should specify the relationship between the communal police, the police and inspection services more clearly so as to avoid conflicts of jurisdiction. They also suggested that the citizens should be informed about the new town jurisdictions.
The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Jovan Palalic.
