Sixth Sitting of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 23 February 2021, the members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee considered the Bill on the Confirmation of the Status Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the European Union on Actions Carried Out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in the Republic of Serbia, submitted by the Government.

The Bill was presented by Zoran Lazarov, Assistant Minister of the Interior, who said that the Agreement would set up the legal framework for the comprehensive management of all the coordination aspects needed for the conduct of actions carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the future cooperation of the Republic of Serbia and the Agency and be the grounds for the adoption of operative documents concerning said cooperation.

The Committee also considered the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia on Cooperation in the Fight against Human Trafficking, submitted by the Government. Lazarov said that, as human trafficking is one of the gravest forms of human rights violations, the Agreement is to regulate issues concerning cooperation on the prevention, identification and protection, in criminal and other procedures and the assisted return of human trafficking victims, for the purpose of advancing the fight against human trafficking.

Following the presentation, the Committee members unanimously adopted both bills and will propose that the National Assembly ratify both agreements.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Aleksandar Markovic, and was attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Vladan Zagradjanin, Ugljesa Mrdic, Marijana Krajnovic, Ivan Ribac, Srbislav Filipovic, Djordje Todorovic, Dusko Tarbuk, Milovan Drecun, Justina Koscal Pupin, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, MA Igor Becic and Dragan M. Markovic.
