The Culture and Information Committee held its sixth sitting on 26 February 2009. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Vesna Marjanovic.

The Committee discussed the Information on the election of members of the Council of the Broadcasting Agency.

Having exchanged opinions, the Committee members passed the following conclusions:

1. The election of members of the Council of the Broadcasting Agency should be repeated because the authorised nominators, under the provisions of article 23 paragraph 2 items 4 and 5 of the Broadcasting Act, had submitted candidate lists contrary to the provisions of the Act;

2. The National Assembly Speaker must be informed about this conclusion as she is, under article 31 of the Broadcasting Act, authorised to issue a public appeal for the submission of a candidate list to those authorised nominators who had nominated the candidates whose mandate is about to cease;

3. It is necessary to initiate proceedings for the amendment and modification of the provisions of the Broadcasting Act regulating the election of the Council and candidate nomination as some unclarity has been perceived in that part of the Act;

4. A meeting with the authorised nominators should be organised, so that their objections and suggestions can be considered in the drafting of the Bill amending and modifying the Broadcasting Act;

5. Initiate proceedings for an authentic reading of the provisions of act 24 paragraph 1 of the Broadcasting Act;

6. It was proposed that the current members of the Council of the Broadcasting Agency, whose mandate has ceased, continue doing their duties until the election of new members of the Council of the Broadcasting Agency.
