Sixth Sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija
At the sitting held on 18 February, the members of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija reviewed the Kosovo-Metohija Office Activity Report for the second half of 2014 (period 1 June – 31 December 2014), submitted by the Office for Kosovo-Metohija and were briefed on the agreement on judiciary matters between Belgrade and the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina.
The sitting was attended by Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic, Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric and representatives of the administrative districts of Kosovo-Metohija.
Presenting the Report, Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric said that in said period the Office mainly focused on managing the institutions in Kosovo-Metohija, cooperating with the provisional administrative institutions functioning within the Pristina institutions and coordinating the talks between Belgrade and Pristina through the Brussels dialogue. Djuric added that the Office also worked on creating the conditions vital for the return of citizens to Kosovo-Metohija, assisted the families of the missing and socially disadvantaged families, offered support for the projects of Kosovo-Metohija-based organisations, encouraged the development of the economy and agriculture and road infrastructure.
After a long discussion, in the course of which the Committee members and attending MPs were thoroughly briefed on the activities of the Office, the Committee accepted the Kosovo-Metohija Office Activity Report for the second half of 2014 (period 1 June – 31 December 2014), submitted by the Office for Kosovo-Metohija. The Committee members also adopted a Conclusion to support and encourage the Office for Kosovo-Metohija to continue its activities on improving the situation of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and defending Serbia’s legitimate interests.
Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic then proceeded to inform the Committee members on the agreement on judiciary matters between Belgrade and the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina. The talks in Brussels took place within the technical dialogue between Belgrade and the provisional institutions in Pristina, 8-10 February. Having debated the issue, the Committee members adopted a Conclusion stating that the Committee fully supports the Serbian Government and Prime Minister in the judiciary negotiations and asks the Government of the Republic of Serbia to set as its priority the establishment of a community of Serbian municipalities and address the issues of property and return of displaced persons.
