The Committee on Interethnic Relations held its sixth sitting on 19 May. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Miletic Mihajlovic, and attended by Milan Markovic, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and President of the Coordination Body for Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Petar Antic, Assistant Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Saip Kamberi, Mayor of Bujanovac Municipality, Aleksandar Popovic, President of the Club of Bujanovac Natives in Belgrade and Svetislav Velickovic, Chairman of the Bujanovac Human Rights Committee. The Committee members and present guest discussed the current political and economic situation in Bujanovac Municipality.

In the discussion, Minister Markovic stressed that both the political and the economic situations are unsatisfactory, and that the key for further stability of Bujanovac Municipality lies in economic development and creation of a multi-ethnic local government. Working with young people should be a priority in the upcoming period, as well as opening institutions of higher education in Serbian and Albanian languages, Markovic said.

The participants of the sitting were of the opinion that the issue needs further discussion and even that a meeting should be held in Bujanovac.
