Seventy-Fifth Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting, begun on 11 April, continued on 20 April and completed on 26 April, the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Proposal of Conclusions on the review of the Information on issues important for the production of positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceuticals in Serbia, prepared by the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences.


The Committee members discussed the existing problems between Vinca Institute and the Clinical Centre of Serbia relating to setting the location for the production of cyclotron radiopharmaceuticals with Assistant Minister of Health Prof. Dr Petar Bulat, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Science Prof. Dr Radivoje Mitrovic and Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences Physics Laboratory Science Director Dr Nebojsa Neskovic.
The sitting was continued on 20 April outside of the National Assembly headquarters, at the Clinical Centre of Serbia. The continuation of the sitting was attended by the Minister of Health Prof. Dr Zoran Stankovic, Assistant Minister of Health Prof. Dr Petar Bulat, Assistant Minister of Education and Science Prof. Dr Tibor Sabo, Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences Physics Laboratory Science Director Dr Nebojsa Neskovic and representatives of clinical centres. They discussed the perspectives for finding a compromise solution to the location for the production of cyclotron radiopharmaceuticals satisfactory to both Vinca Institute and the Clinical Centre of Serbia. On the occasion, the Committee members toured the National PET Centre at the Clinical Centre of Serbia, the potential location for the production of cyclotron radiopharmaceuticals.
Following the debate, Committee Chairman Srboljub Zivanovic convened the continuation of the Committee sitting for Thursday, 26 April and urged the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Science to consult so that they might come up with a common compromise solution to the problem to present to the Committee, which will then proceed to adopt conclusions.
In the continuation of the sitting on 26 April, the Committee Chairman informed the members of the Committee on Science and Technological Development on the official letter sent by the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Health informing the Committee that they have reached a mutual conclusion on the production of positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceuticals in the Republic of Serbia. The official letter, signed by the line ministers, states that the ministries managed to reconcile the views of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences and National PET Centre, concluding that the conditions for the operation of two cyclotron plants should be created, one in Vinca and another at the PET Centre.
Considering that the line ministries came to a common solution with the support of the Committee on Science and Technological Development, the Committee members noted said conclusion.
The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman Srboljub Zivanovic.
