Seventh Sitting of the Committee on Petitions and Proposals

A joint sitting of the National Assembly’s Committee on Petitions and Proposals and the Committee on Petitions and Proposals of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina was held today at the headquarters of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. The sitting dealt with the privatisation of farmers’ cooperatives in Vojvodina.

In addition to the Committee members, the sitting was also attended by representatives of the Privatisation Agency.

The Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Petitions and Proposals Sasa Dujovic and the Chairman of the Committee on Petitions and Proposals of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Milan Djukic, who co-chaired the sitting, agreed that the sitting was truly helpful for the resolution of the problems citizens face as small shareholders of farmers’ cooperatives. Sasa Dujovic stressed that it is up to these committees to initiate the inclusion of all relevant institutions of the system in addressing the problem and thus contribute to the realisation of the civil rights of small shareholders.

At the sitting, the Committees on Petitions and Proposals of the National Assembly and Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina adopted the following Conclusions:

1. In view of the scope of our committees and the importance of the issue i.e. problem relating to privatisation cases of some farmers’ cooperatives from the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, for both the submitters of the petitions themselves and the wider social community, our committees have seen it fit to hold today’s session;

2. Today’s activity fully demonstrates that the efforts to successfully resolve the citizens’ problems about which they address the representative bodies, can be adequately viewed through an appropriate cooperation of all levels of government, in this case the Republican level and the level of Autonomous Province;

3. Cooperation between the representative bodies of all the levels of government directed at the citizens’ interests and problems and their resolution, ultimately contributes not only to the resolution of their specific problems but also to bringing the bearers of power closer to the citizens, as well as fictionalization of the whole state system and ensuring the implementation of the highest democratic standards in the operation of state bodies, as basic bearers of power.
