Today in Limassol (Cyprus), the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked to Hungarian Parliament Speakers Pal Schmitt. The Speakers held a bilateral meeting at the initiative of the Hungarian side on the margins of the Conference of Parliament Speakers of Council of Europe members states held on 11 and 12 June in Limassol.

Djukic-Dejanovic thanked Hungary for its strong support of Serbia’s European Union integration process. The Parliament Speakers agreed that cooperation between parliamentary committees dealing with European and foreign affairs could help Serbia in its next steps towards full-fledged European Union membership. Schmitt stressed that Hungary would remain an important friend to Serbia regarding European integration, particularly during Hungary’s chairmanship of the EU in the first half of 2011.

The Hungarian Parliament Speaker highlighted the high level of cooperation between the two parliaments which should be maintained not only on the level of Speakers but on the level of parliamentary working bodies as well. NARS Speaker attributed the level achieved, inter alia, to the Cooperation agreement between the two parliaments signed in November 2008, adding that this kind of cooperation should be promoted in the future.
