Serbia Praised as Example of Good Disaster Risk Management Legal Framework

Prof. Dr Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, is taking part in the Sixth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, 13 – 17 May 2019.

The session is organized by UNDRR and hosted by the Swiss Government. The topic of the Sixth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, attended by over 4000 participants from 150 UN member states, is “Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies”.

The participants emphasized the important role parliamentarians play in influencing national policies in line with their legal, supervisory and budgetary authority. With that in mind, it is very important that the National Assembly had passed the Law on Reconstruction Following Natural and Other Hazards, and in 2018, the Law on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management, fully in line with the Sendai Framework and EU recommendations, which is why Serbia was praised as a good example of a country with an impressive and ambitious legal framework for disaster risk management.
