Serbia Gets its First Representative in Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee

MP Mladen Grujic, member of the National Assembly standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, was elected to the Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee at the 139th IPU Assembly in Geneva.

Grujic was elected by the absolute majority of 31 votes, against the 14 votes won by Borys Tarasyuk of Ukraine and 8 votes won by Andries Gryffroy of Belgium.

This is the first time that Serbia gets a representative in the Executive Committee of the biggest and oldest parliamentary organization in the world, boasting 178 member states. In the last 20 years the Executive Committee has had no members from Eastern Europe to represent this European group.

“My success is proof of the new image Serbia has in the world and among the European states. I ran at the proposal of National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic and had the full support of my fellow members of the standing delegation. I consider this a victory for all of us and for Serbia”, said Grujic.
