Seminar Held for New MPs

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) organised a seminar for the new MPs, in Arandjelovac, from 4 to 6 October 2012.


The seminar was opened by the National Assembly Speaker, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, National Democratic Institute (NDI) Serbia Director Tom Kelly and UK Member of Parliament and Leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party Alasdair McDonnell.
In the course of the seminar the new MPs had the chance to learn more about their scope and responsibilities, the functions they perform according to regulations, as well as the National Assembly’s role in the European integration process. They were also presented the role and organisational structure of the National Assembly Service. The MPs also had the opportunity to hear information relating to: the National Assembly’s projects, the committees’ role in the performance of the National Assembly’s legislative and control role, legislative procedure in the Republic of Serbia, the institute of public hearing, services provided by the National Assembly Library, parliamentary diplomacy, methods of establishment of parliamentary offices, methods of communication with voters via social networks, relationship with the media, managing public and private obligations, as well as the National Assembly’s role in the exercise of rights of persons with disabilities.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gordana Comic, National Assembly Secretary General Jana Ljubicic, Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Milica Delevic, Head of the Serbian Progressive Party Parliamentary Group Veroljub Arsic, MP Konstantin Samofalov, National Assembly Service employees, Prof. Dr Zoran Stojiljkovic, Jelena Manic Petronikolos, President of the Serbian OSI Centre for Independent Living Gordana Rajkov, OSCE Mission to Serbia representatives Natasa Sakota and Novak Pesic, International Public Relations practitioner and lecturer Dragana Djermanovic and journalist-editor Suzana Trninic took part in the seminar.
