Security Services Control Committee in Supervisory Visit to Security Information Agency Headquarters
In line with its 2016 Activity Plan, the Security Services Control Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia conducted a supervisory visit to the Security Information Agency Headquarters on 26 December 2016.
The delegation was headed by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic, and comprised Committee members Dragan Sormaz, Vladimir Djukanovic, Marija Obradovic and Meho Omerovic, as well as Committee deputy members: Zvonimir Djokic and Vladan Zagradjanin.
As stipulated by the Law on the Bases of Security Services Organization, the National Assembly Rules of Procedure and the Committee Decision regulating the manner in which the Committee conducts direct supervision of the security services’ activity, the Committee delegation inspected the legality of operation of the Security Information Agency as regards its adherence to the duties and tasks prescribed by the law.
In the course of the supervisory visit, using the random sample method, the Committee delegation surveyed the legality of the implementation of special procedures and measures in accordance with the Law on Security Information Agency and the implementation of special evidentiary actions in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code. The Committee delegation focused its inspection on the implementation of special evidentiary actions concerning the criminal offenses of espionage, inciting national, racial and religious hate and intolerance, bribery and forgery and ascertained that, in the surveyed instances, the Security Information Agency acted in accordance with stipulated procedure. The Security Information Agency demonstrated a constructive and open stance during the Committee’s supervisory visit and allowed full insight into the complete documentation and unimpeded exchange with Agency personnel.
The Committee delegation toured the Security Information Agency Belgrade centre and was briefed on its working conditions. Visiting the Technical Equipment Administration, the Committee delegation learned about the technical capabilities and capacities at the Security Information Agency’s disposal to follow the situation and react timely in the pursuit of its priority tasks concerning the protection of the security and other interests of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens, with the purpose of preventing security disturbances and ensuring adequate responses to security threats and risks.
