Security Services Control Committee Visits “Karaula” Army Base

The Chairman of the Security Services Control Committee MA Igor Becic headed the Committee delegation who accompanied Serbian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of General Staff Major-General Petar Cvetkovic in a visit to the Serbian Armed Forces personnel in the Ground Safety Zone.

The members of the Security Services Control Committee visited the Land Forces securing the administrative line and controlling the Ground Safety Zone in the purview of “Karaula” army base. Deputy Commander of the Third Brigade of the Land Forces Colonel Dragan Antic informed the MPs about the tasks and duty organization of the Serbian Armed Forces personnel in the Ground Safety Zone. The Committee members were presented the duties, tasks and activities of the Land Forces in “Karaula” army base. The personnel’s high level of dedication and professional completion of the tasks and objectives in the Ground Safety Zone received top marks.

The Committee members fully support Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic as commander of the Serbian Armed Forces in his efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region and protect the national interests of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens. The members of the Security Services Control Committee were assured of the Serbian Armed Forces’ readiness, training and motivation to respond to all challenges, risks and threats.

The Committee members said they were very interested in the announced modernization of the Land Forces and that they are proud that the Serbian Armed Forces are successfully realizing all of their tasks and maintaining the required level of operation and functional capability. They said that throughout history the Serbian Armed Forces always stood by the people and only a strong army can give its full support to the strengthening of peace, security and stability in the region.

The Committee members also praised the adopted amendments and modifications to the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces which made it possible to correct past mistakes and, as President Vucic asked, correct the injustices committed against some people viz. non-commissioned officers. The amendments made it possible to give 78 non-commissioned officers and professional soldiers full-time employment by which the Army showed that it is looking to the future and thinking of its people. After many years without full-time employment for the non-commissioned officers, this is a huge step forward and an important message for young people deciding to join the armed forces.

The Committee members said that they will continue to advocate a stronger and better equipped Army and the improvement of the financial standing of its personnel. To that end, it is important to maintain Serbia’s economic growth to improve the financial standing of the Army personnel, which cannot be achieved without a stable and secure Serbia. In all of this, what is vital is the support of President Vucic who has for years been urging to strengthen the Army and improve the position of its personnel through pay increases and housing plans.

In addition to Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic, the delegation also comprised Committee members Marija Obradovic, Goran Pekarski and Milorad Mijatovic, as well as substitute members Aleksandar Markovic, Zvonimir Djokic and Nemanja Radojevic.
