Second Sitting of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region

At the sitting held on 17 October 2022, the members of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region discussed the position of the Serbian community in the Republic of Croatia with special focus on the results of the population census in Vukovar.

Dejan Drakulic, president of the Joint Council of the Municipality of Vukovar, Srdjan Kolar, Deputy Mayor of Vukovar and Bishop Heruvim of the Diocese of Osijek-Polje and Baranja attended and took part in the sitting. The sitting was also attended, on behalf of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, by Arnaud Guyon, Head of the Directorate, Nikolina Milatovic Popovic, acting assistant director, and Olga Milojevic, acting assistant director.

Dusko Cutilo, Director of the AP Vojvodina Fund for Refugees and Displaced Persons and for Cooperation with Serbs in the Region, and Savo Strbac, president of the documentation-information centre "Veritas", also spoke at the sitting.

The Committee members and guests discussed the 2021 population census in Croatia, according to which the number of Serbs had fallen from 4.36 to 3.2% in the last ten years. They spoke of the problems faced by the Serbs in Croatia, which led to the constant emigration of Serbs and the avoidance of declaring themselves as Serbs.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Milica Djurdjevic Stamenkovski and also attended by Committee Deputy Chairman Milimir Vujadinovic, as well as the following Committee members and deputy members: Sanja Lakic, Miodrag Linta, Dusan Maric, Rodoljub Stanimirovic, Aleksandra Cotric, Radovan Tvrdisic, Nikola Bokan, Jelena Milosevic, Dusan Radosavljevic, Ivan Kostic and Sanja Jefic Brankovic.
