SPS-US Deputies Talk to Serbian Chambers of Commerce Representatives

Head of the SPS-US Deputy Group Branko Ruzic and a group of deputies talked today at the National Assembly to the President of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and presidents of the Regional Chambers of Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Leskovac and Kraljevo about the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Chambers of Commerce.

SPS-US Deputy Group Head Branko Ruzic stressed that the Bill has caused controversy in the public, so the Deputy Group will open talks with representatives of all the Chambers of Commerce in order to form an opinion, taking into consideration the comments of Serbian economic subjects on the Bill.

Belgrade Chamber of Commerce President handed the deputies the draft of the amendments to the Bill adopted by the Managing Board of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and requested the SPS-US Deputy Group’s support for its views. They stated that they had also requested the support of PUPS Deputy Group. The representatives of the Chambers of Commerce believe that the Bill should be either withdrawn from procedure or its placement onto an agenda for a National Assembly sitting should be postponed. They mainly object to the fact that the 2001 Law on Chambers of Commerce needs no harmonisation with the Constitution, because it is already harmonised with it as well as EU standards. They believe that the Bill derogates and degrades the Chambers of Commerce and that, in a time of economic crisis, the chambers of commerce system should not be altered by a radical concept (decrease of the number of subjects for the foundation of chambers, alteration of the manner of financing and similar).

SPS-US Deputy Group deputies stressed that it would be best to withdraw the Bill from procedure and launch a broad public debate involving all relevant economic subjects and representatives of Regional Chambers of Commerce in Serbia. SPS-US Deputy Group Head Branko Ruzic stressed that this Deputy Group will form an opinion on this issue next week.
