Risticevic Meets with Representatives of Chinese Company Interested in Investing in Serbia

The Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Marjan Risticevic met today with representatives of the Chinese company Fufeng to discuss the company's possible investment in Serbia.

Fufeng intends to invest 500 million euros in corn processing in the first phase and employ 700 workers. They would process 350,000 tons of corn in the first phase and the value of that production would amount to one billion euros per year, with the possibility of increasing production to one million tons per year, all according to ecological standards, first and foremost the standards of the European Union.

Risticevic believes that this investment should be supported, because it is based on production that exists in Serbia and has export potential. He was interested in the deadlines for the realisation of the project, the production process, the source of energy that will be used in the production, with special emphasis on the level of environmental protection.

According to Hun Yinzhou from the Fufeng Group, the industrial park, which would be built in Lazarevac or Odzaci, would meet environmental standards that would be higher than in the European Union. This project will bring the most advanced production facility in Serbia, which would increase the annual processing of corn by 350 thousand tons per year, with the goal of reaching one million tons per year. The investment would also improve the infrastructure in Serbia, especially the railway network. The investors also expressed interest in the improvement of mining in our country, in order to facilitate exploitation of coal, which they would use as the main energy source for production.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Blagojevic spoke of the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, which are constantly on the rise, as evidenced by the fact that President Aleksandar Vucic is currently visiting the People's Republic of China, where he will sign an agreement on free trade.

She went on to say that the grain market in Serbia is very stable, 7 million tons of corn have been sown on one million hectares, and with domestic consumption amounting to 4 million tons, Serbia can respond to the investors’ needs.
