Representatives of Ruling Coalition Meet with European Commissioner for Enlargement

The representatives of the ruling coalition in the National Assembly met today with the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

The Head of the ALEKSANDAR VUCIC – Serbia Must Not Stop Parliamentary Group Milenko Jovanov said that accession to the European Union is the strategic commitment of all of the members of the ruling coalition and the National Assembly will continue its intensive work on conducting reforms and adjusting domestic legislation to the European.

Jovanov also opined that the European Union is not complete without the Western Balkans, especially in the current geopolitical situation in Europe and the world.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that the EU remains committed to enlargement, adding that it is encouraging to hear the confirmation of the political leaders in Serbia about the continuation of the ongoing reforms that lead toward the achievement of the goal for Serbia to complete the negotiations with the EU by the end of 2026. She stressed that the “Growth Plan for the Western Balkans” is an important instrument that can help make the process stable.

The meeting with the European Commissioner was also attended by MPs Dunja Simonovic Bratic (IVICA DACIC - Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Parliamentary Group), Branimir Jovanovic (Social Democratic Party of Serbia Parliamentary Group), Boris Bajic (Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Parliamentary Group), Stefan Krkobabic (PUPS – Solidarity and Justice Parliamentary Group) and Zivota Starcevic (Dragan Markovic Palma - United Serbia Parliamentary Group).

The MPs informed the guest about the current political and social situation in Serbia, further work on the improvement of electoral conditions and the fulfilment of the ODIHR recommendations. They also spoke of the daily pressures and difficult situation the Serbia people in Kosovo-Metohija are faced with, saying that Pristina has still not fulfilled its obligation concerning the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
