“On the eve of 2012, amid the second wave of economic crisis which experts warn may prove as destructive for the economy as its first wave was for the financial system – we have gathered at the supreme legislative body of our country which shares all of its neighbours’ difficulties, at a regional conference to increase our knowledge by sharing", said the National Assembly Speaker. Djukic Dejanovic emphasised how essential the role of the colleagues from the committees for economy and finance was in that regard.
“The fact that we are speaking about economic problems which in a globalised world cannot be the problem of one economy alone, and doing it together, economic experts and us, parliamentarians, who create the legal framework within which national economies operate, makes this conference truly significant”, stated Djukic Dejanovic. At the same time she emphasised the current importance of the topic – the role of parliaments in the process of deciding on priorities: cutting public spending or stimulating the economy.

The conference of the Regional Network of Parliamentary Committees for Economy and Finance of the Western Balkan Countries was co-organised by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Institute of Economic Sciences.
