RSNA Speaker Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic Visits Danish Parliament

Today, at the Danish Parliament, the RSNA Speaker conducted extensive meetings with the Presidium headed by the Parliament Speaker Thor Pedersen, the European Integration Committee headed by Swend Auken and the Foreign Affairs Committee.



Today, at the Danish Parliament, the RSNA Speaker conducted extensive meetings with the Presidium headed by the Parliament Speaker Thor Pedersen, the European Integration Committee headed by Swend Auken and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In all the meetings both sides expressed a wish to expand the cooperation of the two parliaments and their working bodies. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia briefed the Danish parliamentarians in detail on the Serbian Assembly’s activities, particularly its monitoring, legislative and representative role. She emphasised Serbia’s determination to speed up the process of accession to the European Union. Concerning it, she stressed the importance of not only sharing experiences with EU members, but their direct aid in overcoming the obstacles on Serbia’s road to the EU.

The Speaker put particular emphasis on explaining the current economic situation in Serbia. She stated that the Serbian Government had passed measures aiming to alleviate the effects of the world financial crisis on Serbia. The main goal of said measures is to increase production and preserve jobs. She recommended that economic cooperation between the two countries be furthered, urging for more extensive investment into Serbian economy by EU countries.

Serbia’s familiar position regarding Kosovo-Metohija was explained to the partners in the Danish parliament in particular detail, stressing the importance of abiding by UNSC Resolution 1244 as well as the impending ruling of the International Court of Justice.

The officials openly stated that all parliamentary parties in the Danish Parliament support Serbia’s accession to the EU. Aware of the challenges Serbia faces, they expressed a wish to help its democratic development. The good relations between Serbia and Denmark were particularly emphasised, along with the fact that Serbia’s future lies within the EU.
