Public Debate on Energy and Environment – Serbia on Road to EU
The National Assembly House hosted a public debate with the topic Energy and the Environment – Serbia on the Road to the EU, aimed at including the public into the creation of Serbia’s negotiating policy in these areas.
The Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy Aleksandra Tomic presented the activities and progress the Republic of Serbia had achieved in the harmonisation of Serbia and EU’s energy legislation. She stressed that Serbia worked hard on the implementation of all European energy policies. She reminded that a Network of Western Balkans parliamentary committees was set up in Brussels in 2012 and announced that in May the National Assembly delegation will be signing the initiative to set up an energy community parliamentary assembly.
“There are many challenges ahead so we have to cooperate with countries in the region. The circumstances in Europe change rapidly and Serbia must change its stance on energy policy with them”, said Aleksandra Tomic.
The Head of the Negotiating Team for the Accession of the Republic of Serbia to the EU Tanja Miscevic, Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, Director of the European Policy Centre Nebojsa Lazarevic, researcher of the Centre for European Reform Stephen Tindale and the Director of the Environmental Protection Agency Filip Radovic also spoke about the situation and the activities that need to be conducted in the sphere of energy and the environment.
The public debate was organised by the European Policy Centre.
