In accordance with the practice of presenting new bills, a roundtable for journalists was held today at which the Public Administration Bill was presented.
Participants at the roundtable were welcomed by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, while the roundtable was attended, in addition to journalists, by the Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Vesna Ilic-Prelic, the Deputy Secretary of the Republic Legislation Secretariat, Jasmina Damjanovic, representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Nenad Rava, and representative of the World Bank, Aleksandra Rebranovic.
Representatives of the proposer of the Bill and experts agreed that the Bill was up-to-date and that it would introduce new concepts into the organisation of public administration.
The main difference from the principles applying today is that, according to the Bill, public authorities would take part in forming government policy, but also monitor the situation and study the consequences of policies.
Special attention was devoted to the elimination of political influence from public offices and a change in the framework of activities foreseen by the new Public Administration Bill.
In addition to the Government Bill and the Public Administration Bill, which are undergoing Assembly procedure at the moment, the Civil Service Bill, currently at the final drafting stage, is also important in reforming public administration.
