Presentation of the Advertising Bill

The Committee on Trade and Tourism, in co-operation with the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services and the Belgrade Media Centre, held a presentation of the Advertising Bill.

The Committee on Trade and Tourism, in co-operation with the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services and the Belgrade Media Centre, held a presentation of the Advertising Bill. The presentation was held on 1 April at the National Assembly.

The Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services, Bojan Dimitrijevic, presented the Advertising Bill. He explained that the solutions proposed in the Bill regulate the manner and conditions of advertising, as well as the rights and obligations of all participants, from advertisers to users of advertising messages. The Minister spoke of the prohibition of advertising tobacco, alcoholic beverages and weapons, with the exception of sporting weapons.

In addition to deputies and officials from the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services, the discussion was attended by representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, advertising agencies, relevant associations and the media, who all presented their objections to the solutions outlined in the Bill. Special attention was paid to the possibility that the Bill could include sections providing for the positive discrimination of certain media, especially printed media, as well as to advertising abuses, judicial protection of rights, and expected effects of adopting such a law.

It was agreed to organise talks on the Bill, to which members of the Committee on Trade and Tourism would also be invited, as well as to enable interested organisations for their representatives to participate in the session of the Committee discussing the Advertising Bill.
