Respecting the right of the public to be informed about activities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, held a news conference to present the Quarterly, Annual and Cumulative Reports on the activities of the present convocation of the National Assembly.

It was only thanks to the deputies and the Assembly's support services that such impressive results in the field of legislative activity could be achieved, Mr Markovic said. The results of the present convocation of the National Assembly have been mentioned several times in reports by international institutions – from the report positively assessing the Feasibility Study for EU negotiations, to the European Commission's EU accession progress report for Serbia and Montenegro, which specifically mentions positive effects of the Serbian Assembly's new set of Rules of Procedure.

Speaking of results achieved, Mr Markovic said that a total of 196 laws had been adopted so far; he specially stressed the passage of a large number of systemic laws regulating a number of fields, from the Consumer Protection Act, the Competition Protection Act, the State Audit Institution Act, and the Criminal Code, to the set of laws regulating the health service. Mr Markovic underlined the importance of the fact that all these laws were in harmony with EU law, which is an important precondition for further progress in Serbia's integration into the European Union.
